Tulsa police arrest 4 men, recover $37K in counterfeit cash

Tulsa police officers arrested four men on Tuesday accused of using thousands of dollars in counterfeit cash.


The Tulsa Police Mingo Valley Street Crimes Unit received information Tuesday about a group of individuals using counterfeit money at various businesses in and around Tulsa. Through the investigation, the unit identified a suspect vehicle and tracked it down at the Lowe's on 71st.


Officers quickly arrived on scene and took four individuals into custody. While searching the suspect vehicle, officers found several forms of counterfeit money totaling around $37,000.

Officers also recovered additional evidence linking the individuals to a broader crime spree spanning from Florida to Oklahoma.


Darius Smith, Bertram Leonard, Roderick Jordan and Shawn Smith were all arrested on varying charges, including:


  • Uttering a Forged Instrument

  • Conspiracy to Commit a Felony

  • Writing a Bogus Check


This was a joint effort between the Street Crimes Unit, the Traffic Unit, Patrol Officers, and the Tulsa Police Fraud Unit.
