The Tulsa Police Department is spreading the word about fake warrant calls going out to local residents.
Recently, we've received several reports of scammers targeting Tulsa County residents, claiming to be Officers from the Tulsa Police Department and Deputies from the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office.
The scammers are telling people they have a warrant for their arrest, or even showing them a photo of a fake warrant, and demanding money through gift cards, crypto currency, or cash apps.
The latest version of the scam works like this:
Scammers contact victims, claiming they have a warrant for failing to appear for a federal grand jury summons.
Victims are told to pay hundreds of even thousands of dollars in fines to avoid arrest
Scammers use an app to make it look as if they're calling from the Tulsa Police non-emergency number, 918-596-9222.
Victims are sent a fake warrant with their name on it and ordered to stay on the phone while making payment.
Remember, Tulsa Police and TCSO will NEVER call to demand payment over the phone. If you receive one of these calls, hang up. If you're a victim of this scam, you can report it online at https://www.tulsapolice.org/makeatulsapolicereport
