February 2025 Newsletter

Writer: Ryan LoveRyan Love

Updated: Mar 7

Welcome to the Tulsa Police Department's monthly newsletter! Despite the winter weather, we've pushed through the month of February with a lot of great work to look back on. Let's take a look at some of the highlights:

Polar Plunge 2025

The Tulsa Police Department once again took part in the Tulsa Polar Plunge on Feb. 8, benefiting Special Olympics Oklahoma.

Despite the chilly temperatures and light rain, Officers and Apprentice Police Officers in the Academy plunged into 45-degree water at Paradise Beach Waterpark.

The Tulsa Fraternal Order of Police was the top law enforcement fundraising team, raising a little more than $8k this year. The Tulsa Police Academy Class also took part and raised a little more than $4k.

Badges & Baristas

We had a great time out at the Badges and Baristas events benefitting Special Olympics Oklahoma earlier in the month!

Officers got the chance to help the baristas behind the coffee bar, pass out drinks, and even deliver a few pup cups!

911 Dispatcher Graduation

Please join us in welcoming several new City of Tulsa 911 Dispatchers who graduated from the academy this week!

Congratulations to Amethyst, Hannah and Alyson!

Motorcycle Skills Course

Our free Motorcycle Skills Course starts in March!

The dates will be March 15th, April 12th, April 26th, May 10th, May 24th, June 14th, and September 6th. The classes typically run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Find more information and how to register here.

Gilcrease Division

The Gilcrease Division’s standout event in February was the recurring Café en Comunidad meeting. This gathering was made possible through the division's partnership with Growing Together, a community-focused organization dedicated to providing resources for mixed-income families in the Kendall-Whittier district, particularly those in the Hispanic community.

The meeting centered around tax season, offering attendees valuable information and assistance with filing their taxes.

Notably, this event marked Maj. Ohnesorge's first appearance as the commander of the Gilcrease Division. He took the opportunity to introduce himself and express his enthusiasm for community engagement, receiving a warm welcome from the group.

Mingo Valley Division

February, at the Mingo Valley Division, we started to get back in the swing of things. We showcased that with some special guests at the Mingo Valley Division!

Students from Darnaby Elementary paid us a visit for their KDES News Broadcast, where they had the chance to interview some real-life superheroes, our Officers! The young reporters came prepared with great questions, and in return, we gave them a full tour of the station, showing them what it’s like behind the scenes at MVD.

February was a fantastic month for MVD, and we’re looking forward to keeping the momentum going in March! Stay tuned for more events, community involvement, and ways to engage with your local officers.

Riverside Division

We made some great connections early in the month with the Early Learning Program at South Tulsa Baptist Church!

Officers from the Riverside Division were invited out to speak with kids about how Police Officers help serve the community.

The school's theme for the month is focusing on community helpers to help teach kids about how different careers serve Tulsa.

We love engaging with our community’s youngest members and helping them understand that Officers are here to help!

Tulsa police help save woman injured in car crash

On 2/14/2025 around 12:50 p.m., an Officer observed dirt and debris on the road near 5700 N Hwy 75 in the southbound lanes. Believing she had seen a car run off the road, the Officer pulled over.

The Officer quickly spotted a black sedan wrecked out at the bottom of an embankment and found a woman partially ejected from the car and hanging out of the front windshield glass.

The Officer also recognized the car was leaking large amounts of fuel.

Fearing the car may catch fire, the Officer and her backing Officer cleared out some of the glass and pulled the woman to safety out of the vehicle. Firefighters arrived on scene shortly after. The woman involved in the crash was treated for her injuries.

The news this month has many interesting activities. Hopefully, in the near future, the presence of geometry dash meltdown here will become more and more vibrant.
