Citizens Police Academy starting in February

Citizens Police Academy class

Interested in learning about the Tulsa Police Department? Our next Citizens Police Academy starts NEXT MONTH, and applications are now open!

The Tulsa Police Department will begin a Citizens Police Academy starting on February 20, 2024. The classes will meet every Tuesday evening for 13 consecutive Tuesday nights concluding with graduation on May 14, 2024. Classes will begin at 6 p.m. and run until approximately 9 p.m. Classes will meet at the Tulsa Police Training Center at 6066 E. 66th St. No., Tulsa.

The course is designed to introduce citizens to the various squads and divisions that encompass the Tulsa Police Department.

Relevant topics such as use of force, firearms training, pursuit driving, and criminal and narcotic investigations are part of the curriculum. Veteran Tulsa Police Officers teach the course.

The course is meant to provide an opportunity for citizens to interact with Officers in an educational environment, and to foster the understanding and mutual respect that is necessary to build a safer community.

The course is free of charge to citizens who live, work or attend school in Tulsa. Some of the classes feature hands-on learning, but the course is not physically taxing.

Due to the sensitive nature of portions of the curriculum a criminal background check is part of application process. There is no law enforcement authority or law enforcement credentials conveyed to any citizen who completes the program. It is adult education designed not only to teach but to make the process fun and interesting.

To obtain an application. citizens may go to here, or you can email Jim Hunter at jhunter@cityoftulsa.org., for an application.
